Desire and Intimacy: The Long Game is an 11 week, 16.5 CE peer consultation group addressing sexual desire discrepancy or mismatch in working with couples. The group will include psychoeducation and small group breakout activities, as well as clinical consultation. We will use Esther Perel’s Mating in Captivity as our guiding text to explore tools to implement with individuals or couples looking to address desire and intimacy. Each group will explore one chapter of the text and 1-2 case consultations from group members. Learning Objective 1: Identify three ways in which domesticity and closeness impacts desire.
Learning Objective 2: Outline three strategies for addressing the impact of parenthood on desire.
Learning Objective 3: Apply Bowenian Family Therapy concepts of differentiation and enmeshment to Perel’s frame of domesticity and closeness in sex therapy
Schedule: 10:30-10:45: Reviewing three main ideas from the chapter (Lecture format) 10:45-11: Reflections from the group about what they learned from the chapter
11-11:15: Introduction of case study
11:15-11:30: Role play of case study, using reflecting team format
11:30-11:45: Identifying practical applications from case study onto therapeutic work of participant
11:45-12:00 Review of the day
Sign Up for the peer group Here!Instructor: Miranda Hughes, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Connecticut and Massachusetts and a Certified Sex Therapist. She received her Master’s degree from the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, CT where she later became adjunct faculty teaching both the Counseling Families and Sex Therapy course for the MFT and Clinical Mental Health Counseling departments until moving to Massachusetts in 2022. Miranda is also a graduate of the Institute for Sexuality Education and Enlightenment where she completed all educational requirements for her AASECT certification. Miranda is currently a supervisor in training with AASECT. Miranda sees clients in her private practice virtually and in her office in Salem, MA. She specializes in working with clients in the queer, kink, and polyamorous/CNM communities. This activity is pending certification by the New England Association for Family and Systemic Therapy (NEAFAST) on behalf of the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health & Human Services Professions for LMFT professional continuing education.
