Emily Mitchell ScholarshipEmily Mitchell was the first president of our predecessor organization, the Massachusetts Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT). She advocated for licensure for marriage and family therapists in Massachusetts, relational health for clients in community mental health and private practice, and quality training in family and systemic therapy. She taught family and systemic therapy at the Kantor Family Institute, Cambridge College, and Antioch University New England. In 2015, MAMFT created a scholarship fund in Emily’s name to promote students and pre-licensed clinicians being able to attend professional conferences and workshops in topics in couple and family therapy. Emily, then in her mid-eighties offered to match MAMFT member donations to the fund. A fund-raising campaign drew in 32 donors and a total of $5318 from members who contributed anywhere from $18 to $1000 which when matched, came to $10,636. Since then, The Emily Mitchell Fund has been able to provide partial or full scholarships for all applicants, and has continued to take in additional donations in subsequent years. When MAMFT became NEAFAST, the fund was transitioned to the new organization. Now in 2019, The Fund is honored to provide scholarship money for NEAFAST events in Emily's memory to students and pre-licensed members in need. Students and pre-licensed members can receive this scholarship once annually. Please apply when you fill out the online conference or workshop registration. The Emily Mitchell fund relies on donations from our members, local therapists, and the public.
